BEKh performance for Kiev Fashion Days in spring 2011 was directed by an artist Nikita Kadan and curated by me. Here is the brief russian description: В субботу, 26 марта в 18-30 дизайнер одежды Мария Бех (BEKh) в творческом сотрудничестве с художником Никитой Каданом представила знаковые луки из своей осенне-зимней коллекции «Медленный сон» в рамках одноименного перформанса. «Сегодня традиционный fashion показ воспринимается зрителем как вид шоубизнеса, а не как жизнь. Быстротечность и искусственность шоу, основанного на яркости и грации почти бегущих по подиуму моделей, в большинстве случаев, стирает глубину идеи создателя, оставляя зрителю лишь кратковременное и неуловимое впечатление, более похожее на размытое воспоминание об ускользающем и неуловимом для сознания сне, чем на истинную реальность…И в то же время, медленный и естественный сон позволяет увидеть, понять себя и мир…Действие или сон, ритм или умиротворение - что реальнее? В этом перформансе нам хотелось показать связь мира моды с миром современного искусства и реальностью. Для меня эти миры едины и имеют одну общую цель – помочь людям задуматься о природе вещей, раскрыть их внутреннюю красоту». Здесь же модели, девушки и юноши в одежде от BEKh, заняты делом, не относящимся к собственно показу, демонстрации. Они работают, собирают стену - элемент декорации для, вероятно, собственного же предполагаемого шоу. Они трудятся целенаправленно и самозабвенно, ничего никому не демонстрируя, не используя собственную красоту как профессиональный инструмент. I’ve founded the brand ma_sy 2 years ago. First step in my career was Fashion fair for young designers in autumn 2009. I was really amazed that the day after it I received a first inquiry for collaboration from Ukrainian brand X`U. The exhibition of the famous Warhol pieces, from the legendary female icons of the artist’s era to his own inner Diva, is currently showcased at The Lowry till 25 September, 2011.

There are too much written on Andy Warhol’s works. His famous style has been emulated from every angle by everyone and everything, even popular computer games, so it was not so easy to decide whether to mention his legacy again. However, the latest 'Warhol and the Diva' exhibition shown in the British gallery, The Lowry, makes us think about Andy in a different light.

This exhibition focuses on the iconic figures of American pop culture, which could be quite predictable and boring, if pictures made by Andy's good friend, the photographer Christopher Makos, were not included. In those photographs, Andy poses just like his famous divas, for instance Marilyn Monroe, Debbie Harry, Liz Taylor, and more. Through this display, it is clear that the artist's favourite subject is iconic beauty. He admired divas and at the age of 53, he decided to play with this subject matter: to alter his own image and see how people understand that kind of Warhol. With 7 different wigs and heavy transvestite make-up, Andy’s alter ego emerges and is seen striking famous poses and looking boldly to the camera. “We played with the idea of how people would perceive Warhol,” commented Makos on this project. Besides, you, too, can play this Warhol-diva game. The Lowry gallery is open for everyone and awaits for your very own diva pictures, which can be a part of the big exhibition.

Ksenia Shneider (Marchenko) – is one of the famed designers of the country and the most faithful ideological leader of domestic fashion movement. She started this overall passion for fashion era – lots of new designer names were inspired by her first X'U shows and aesthetics. She actually was the first one, who ventured against post-soviet-era fashion perceptions about clothes as something for rare holidays.

Looking forward to her new creative period, we've caught up with beautiful girl to find out whats next in her life with little daughter.

PF: You skipped one season, and the same time declared some great plans. Please tell us what to wait from you this autumn?

KS: First of all this pause helped me to rethink my creativity. I have had ten shows before this silente period and that was kind of border line. So now I’m starting the new page. Under the label X'U there will be only simple and democratic lines and pieces and under the brand Ksenia Shneider something more serious, connected with contemporary arts, music and innovations. Moreover, I’m launching special clothing line for children. This summer you'll see the first collection under the label HA-HA-HEY!

PF: And what about your audience, concept and styling? Will it be the same?

KS: I remain to stay loyal with simplicity, elegance and my audience are those, who valuating sincerity, peace, beauty and freshness.

PF: We have just one season passed away, but so many designers emerged . What do you think about such fast growing competition? What are you benefits?

KS: I’m happy about this situation. Finally there is some movements in our swamp! Competition is a great way to improve myself: its becoming more and more important to stay at a high level. And one of my benefits is to set this level.

PF: You've had a chance to watch all the fashion weeks out here from the visitors seats. What are your impressions?

KS: Due to my condition I could not attend all the shows I was interested in, but watched a lot of them on-line. Obviously, thanks to this increased competition amongst designers we're getting closer to to the global standards, and that good.

PF: Can you tell us about your recent aesthetics impressions?

KS: Sure, I have few on my mind. One of them – is my autumn trip to Paris and this winter. The last one was spent with my friends from SILA (creative group). I always get some inspiration from new places, cities and people.

PF: Do you plan to continue some art collaboration? What artists are interesting for you?

KS: it is very spontaneous process for me. such projects are not connected to some season, they are not really scheduled and depends only from your inner vision and experiences. If I see something that inspires me much and cant stop thinking about that, I start collaboration. I have one project on my mind which I would like to do with Tracey Emin. Be its just a dream so far.

PF: Can you tell bit more about dreams. What is the most outstanding project you're dreaming to make?

KS: Sure! On my way back from Aurora Fashion Week, we (my husband and Dasha Lagenberg) invented the new show production. I’m not really sure how to make it technically, but the idea itself is just outstanding! Believe me. We'll defenetely make it this autumn. Cant tell you anything more, just wait and you'll see it by your eyes!

Karl Lagerfeld's cut-throat and concise comments imprinted on the press information page of Visionaire magazine’s website is probably the most accurate way to describe the importance and influence of this publication. His comments have been deliberately omitted in this article, so that each of you reading this article could have a chance to find it yourself. Let’s say, it’s a kind of homework to take the initiative to study the resource itself.

As a practical lesson, we present the following special cultural event, organised by Kiev-based Luxury Concept Store Sanahunt to be held on 19-21 May. The event will take place not only on all four floors of the store itself, but also in special auditoriums and clubs. 'The idea of such a cultural event came from [President of SANAHUNT GROUP] Oksana Moroz and [Artist] Philip Vlasov, and they decided to ask me to help with the organization, because what I do is actually just the right thing for them – creating programs for cultural initiatives, promoting brands on the western market and providing information about the fashion-art scene in Russia and Ukraine to evoke interest in the USA and Europe,' says fashion consultant Anna Djulgerova, known for her collaborations with Russian designers and Russian fashion shows 'Cycles and Seasons', about the upcoming event.

Sanahunt will display 59 legendary issues of Visionaire magazine to celebrate the publication’s 60th anniversary this summer. Known throughout the world as the almanac of fashion and art published three times a year since 1991, Visionaire is considered "couture" in the world of fashion press. In addition to limited quantity of copies printed and a pretty expensive cover price, every issue is remarkable with their contributors - the most interesting personalities from the world of fashion, arts, and photography assemble to create an issue in accordance to a theme. 'Visionaire is a 20 years old publication. And by this summer, they would have published 60 issues. I think, the secret to their success is in the clear vision and confidence in the things the team wants to do and is doing. They started 20 years ago with no money, just having a vision for a publication they are creating. Today, [founders] Cecilia Dean and James Kaliardos have the same enthusiasm and the same understanding with no fame disease. The risk and stability – is their key to success, and of course also because of the enormous talent and the creativity of the team,’ says Anna Djulgerova about the team behind the magazine. What inspires how each issue of Visionaire is created and becomes iconic can be easily comprehended from the lips of Cecilia Dean. The exhibition space of this unique archive (available for purchasing, by the way) will be specially designed by architect Rafael de Cбrdenas.

Sean O'Pry is one of the most successful male models, ranked number two after Baptist Jiabiconi by the models.com and named as number one in annual Forbes magazine list in /// year. His career looked like real Cinderella story, scouted by chance in internet and won a model contest, he is very well known and established staying still cool and simple handsome guy from your neighborhood. Playing football, watching tv shows and admiring classical beauty icons, like Clark Gable is making him twice special in the era of androgynous creatures and perverse natures. We've catched up with Sean to talk about his appeal, self-confidence, believes and people. And that's what he told us.

What was the most catching thing in my appearance that time and now? I'd have to say my eyes seem to be the thing that people have noticed the most, but funny story is me and my brother and sister all have the same eyes. Chris, my brother, has eye's that change colour’s and my sister Shannon's eyes are as blue as the sky. I thought i looked attractive and sexy at that time, but looking back it was just a mask for all the insecurities I had as a younger person, i feel loads better about myself in that way now then i ever had, especially then i did then. I believe as you get older you feel sexier as you get more comfortable with your self. It's an ever growing process and i'm still growing. Ask me 5 years from now. To feel sexy for me is to feel confident. I think your the sexiest when your comfortable with who you are and not worried about what others perceive of you.
Male or female beauty icon? I gotta go with Clark Gable, Christina Hendricks, and Kiera Knightley The classic appeal while having the ability to be a gentleman and a brute at the same time is my appeal for Gable. Plus i'm from the south gotta love Gone with the Wind. Christina Hendricks.... I do love a red head. Kiera Knightley.... the accent, the classic looks and did i say the accent?

I'm a baptist. What do i believe in? Well that's a vast subject. It's easier to say what i don't believe in...I don't believe in a closed mindset. I've been given the amazing chance to see the world and experience different cultures, people and religions. I've been able to speak religion with people from different sects, and faces of the earth. I've taken all there beliefs and moulded them into my Christian beliefs. I guess, you can say I'm a modern day baptist. People that i find interesting are the one's that have something to say, get past all the bull shit everyday things and questions and start a real conversation. People i feel i can benefit off there energy as much as they can mine. Someone with the possibility of being a loose cannon but being able to contain it in the proper times as well. I like opinionated, and inquisitive people as well, i was brought up to think the only dumb question is the one you don't ask. What's up new in my life? The newest thing in my life is a lot of NCIS and CSI on TV. Teaching my sister how to drive, she just turned 15 and already tried to kill us twice. A lot of guitar, and starting to draw again. What was it like in the models apartment? That didn't last long. I got kicked out. I remember, being 17 and moving to New York on your own...and very immature at the time didn't go over well. It involved something about water balloons and rooftops. I actually think on the new models contract they sign to stay in the apartment, one of the rules is not letting me in lol. Do i buy magazines? Hm, not so much but if i do there usually one's my parents can get in the local Barnes and Noble's. If i happen to buy a magazine i'm going to have to say the Playboy college football edition. Not only do they have great rankings, I think the articles are entirely well written, and the pictures are a plus too.

Ksenia Shnaider (Marchenko) – is one of the famed designers of the country and the most faithful ideological leader of domestic fashion movement. She started this overall passion for fashion era – lots of new designer names were inspired by her first X'U shows and aesthetics. She actually was the first one, who ventured against post-soviet-era fashion perceptions about clothes as something for rare holidays.

Interesting printed t-shirts has became kinda signature pieces for X'U brand.
These t-shirts were made after the collaboration with street-artist Vova Vorotniov. Limited edition.

so here we are. the second annual pf ukrainian issue is coming out.

i'm not a patriot, thats true. moreover, sometimes i feel like a stranger here, among all these people.

naturally, this issue is all about farce. thats how ukr fashion looks like. we still smell soviet aesthetics, a bunch of foreign expansion and huge desire to be uber-cool.

that is why this cover as well as issue is not about fashion. its more about attitude and depicturing current ukraine. thats how we see it. thats how i feel it.

redicilous, dumb, naive, kitsch, presumptuous.

just dont take it serious.

never knew how much i can love this scent.

i admit, i like bold parfums which are almoust like a strickt statement. you can easily realise a person - just feel the smell. and, may be (or if!) thats not really correct, but i dont like people with to sweet or soft parfums, it means they are weak or trying to hide smth.
